How Online Bail Bonds Work

The Entire Process, Remote

An "online" or remote bail bond means you can handle nearly the entire bonding process from wherever you are — whether that's across town, across the state, or across the country — without needing to physically visit our Lake Charles office. We use phone calls, email, and digital signature tools to walk you through everything, the same way we would in person.

Who Needs It Most

This matters most for families who don't live near Southwest Louisiana — a loved one who was arrested while traveling, working, or visiting the area, with family members who need to act quickly from somewhere else entirely.

What You Can Do Entirely Remotely

Nearly every step of the bonding process on your end can happen without leaving your home.

Initial Consultation

The first call, where we gather the defendant's information and explain the charge, bail amount, and premium, can happen entirely over the phone.

Step 01

Paperwork and Signatures

Bond contracts and related documents can be signed digitally, without needing to be physically present at our office.

Step 02

Payment

Premium payments and payment plan setup can be handled by phone or through secure digital payment methods.

Step 03

Ongoing Updates

We keep you informed by phone throughout the process, from bond posting through release confirmation.

Step 04

What Requires a Local Presence

A small number of steps in the bonding process inherently require someone local, or our agents acting on your behalf.

Posting the Bond at the Jail

This is handled by our licensed agents directly at the facility holding the defendant; you don't need to be present for this step.

Collateral, If Required

Physical property used as collateral (such as a vehicle title or real estate documents) may require in-person handling or notarization depending on the specific arrangement.

The Defendant's Release Itself

The defendant is released from the facility directly; this doesn't require anyone else to be physically present, though many families do choose to be there.

In nearly every case, the person arranging the bond can do so entirely from a distance while our local agents handle everything that requires physical presence in Southwest Louisiana.

State Mandated Pricing

How Much Does an
Online Bail Bond Cost?

Whether arranged remotely or in person, Louisiana law (La. R.S. 22:1443) sets the bail bond premium at 12% of the total bail amount, or $120, whichever is greater — the same rate across every licensed bail bond company in the state. Handling things remotely doesn't add any additional fee.

Payment Plans: Remote arrangements work just as well with a payment plan as an in-person bond — see our No Collateral Bail Bonds page for details on financing options.

Accepted Payment Methods

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Zelle, all available for remote payment. Cash is accepted only in person at our Lake Charles office.

Is the Premium Refundable?

No — the 12% premium is non-refundable by Louisiana state law, regardless of case outcome or how the bond was arranged. This is the service fee for posting the bond and taking on the financial risk of the defendant appearing in court.

How The Online Bail Process Works

Six steps from your first call to release confirmation — no travel required on your end.

1

Step 1: Call or Email Carter Bail Bonds

Reach out from wherever you are — call us directly, and we'll begin gathering the defendant's information and details of the arrest immediately.

2

Step 2: Remote Consultation

We explain the charge, the bail amount, the premium, and your payment options entirely over the phone — no need to be in Louisiana for this conversation.

3

Step 3: Digital Paperwork

We send bond contracts and related documents for digital signature, so you can complete everything from anywhere with an internet connection.

4

Step 4: Remote Payment

Premium payment or payment plan setup is handled by phone or secure digital payment method — no need to visit our office in person.

5

Step 5: Bond Is Posted at the Jail

Once paperwork and payment are complete, our licensed local agent posts the bond directly at the Calcasieu Correctional Center or the relevant facility — this step happens on our end, regardless of where you are.

6

Step 6: Release & Ongoing Communication

We confirm release with you by phone, and stay in contact regarding upcoming court dates and any conditions the defendant needs to comply with.
